FIVE TIPS ON HOW TO GET YOUR LIP GLOSS TO STAY ON ALL DAY!

LIP PRIMER

Keep lip gloss in place all day with a good-quality lip primer to lock in moisture before applying your lip color, in order to really capture the color on your lips. For best results, let
it set for a few minutes and follow with your lip gloss.

NUDE MATTE LIPSTICK

Using a matte lipstick underneath your lip gloss will ensure long-lasting staying power. Simply apply a hint of lipstick before applying your lip gloss to create a bold, high-shine lip color that will last most of the day!

LIP PREP

For seamless lip gloss application, lip preparation is key. Use a lip scrub followed by a lip mask and lip balm a few times a week to prep your lips. Check out some of our favorite go-to lip prep recipes below.

SETTING POWDER

Apply lip gloss and blot with a tissue. Next, place the tissue over your lips. Using an invisible setting powder and a fluffy blush brush, lightly tap the powder onto the tissue. The powder will absorb the excess moisture off the lipgloss and keep it in place.

LIP LINER

Lip liner not only defines, contour, and fill lips, they’re perfect to use under a lip gloss to help create a long-lasting product, even if the gloss transfers and fades throughout the day. Fill in your entire lip with the liner and apply your gloss.

ABOUT COLOR INGREDIENTS

MICA – A name given to a group of silicate materials that are used to add shimmer and sparkle.

LAKES – Produced through precipitation of FD&C soluble dyes with metallic salts such as aluminum salts. Lakes are useful to extend the color range of a shade palette. These ingredients are often surface-treated and sold in dispersions of various esters and oils to facilitate ease of use in manufacturing.

PIGMENTS – Insoluble particles that impart a color to a product. Inorganic pigments are derived from minerals and have good stability to heat and light. Organic pigments, by nature, are carbon-based and tend to have a brighter appearance. Commonly, pigments are surface-treated and sold in dispersions of various esters and oils to facilitate ease of use in manufacturing and ensure homogeneity of the color.

DYES – Predominantly water-soluble, these ingredients are used in skincare, body care, fine fragrance, hair care, and color cosmetics. There are some dyes that are oil soluble as well.

All the ingredients above can be used across the broad category of color cosmetics, from eye shadow and pressed powders to lipsticks and foundations.

WHAT ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS, CAN I USE THOSE IN LIP PRODUCTS?

Some essential oils are lip-safe while others are not. Essential oils are pure distillations from botanicals, and they possess certain characteristics that greatly impact whether or not they can be used in leave-in products and at what rate. Additionally, the type of botanical used and the distillation method affect final usage ability. Thus, one Peppermint essential oil may be okay to use in lip products and another variation may not be. Always check with your vendor as to the suitability of their particular oils for lip products.
